Powrachute Asks the FAA for a Bridge While MOSAIC's Standards Catch Up
The powered-parachute builder Powrachute has filed a petition asking for short-term relief on certification until a revised ASTM consensus standard clears acceptance under MOSAIC, the FAA's Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification rule. The sequence will be familiar to anyone who has watched a type certificate wait on paperwork: the fix to the standard exists, but the aircraft cannot be signed off against it until the agency formally takes it up. Powrachute's request is simply for a way to keep certifying in the interim. For owners in the jet world the aircraft is a long way from the ramp, but the mechanics of the ask are the same ones that govern every airworthiness decision in this country.
