Flying reports that the current generation of cockpit design, with glass instrumentation and controls meant to be understood at a glance, is lowering the barrier for people learning to fly. For an owner the relevant point is not the student in a trainer but the front office of the airplane already in the hangar, which increasingly runs on the same logic. A display that presents the aircraft's state plainly is as much a feature of the flight department as of the flight school.
