A Connecticut Pond Built to Olympic Scale, and Up for Sale After Thirty Years
Floridians know water. We have the Atlantic off Palm Beach, the Gulf off Naples, Biscayne Bay off Miami, and a backyard pool on nearly every lot in between. So it takes something unusual up north to catch our attention, and a residence in Fairfield County, Connecticut, has managed it with a pond the size of an Olympic pool, poured in concrete. The asking price is $6.2 million. It is also the first time in thirty years that the house has been offered to buyers. Thirty years with one set of owners suggests the place suited the people who had it. In Miami, a pond this size would get a DJ booth. In Palm Beach, it would need approval from a committee. In Naples, someone would already be wading in at sunset to look for herons. In Connecticut, it is simply part of the property, and now someone new gets to decide what it becomes.
