On Alki Beach, the House Wears Its Neighbors on the Outside
Out on Alki Beach in West Seattle, a residence has put the native creatures of its own shoreline across its exterior, in a painted mural that wraps the house. The architecture underneath stays spare and orderly. The color does the talking. Palm Beach keeps its exuberance behind a hedge, Naples keeps it on the lanai, and Miami puts it on the facade and dares you to comment. This one leans Miami. Anyone walking the sand would take in the painted wildlife long before registering the house behind it.
