Wesley Ward's Outfielder Runs Down a Keeneland Field From Well Back
The son of Speightstown who races for AMO Racing and Two Eight Racing had plenty of ground to make up with two furlongs left Thursday at Keeneland. He made it up. Outfielder closed through the final quarter to win a condition race restricted by age and stocked with horses good enough for a stakes. Thoroughbred Daily News singled him out with its "Rising Star" tag for the performance, and the manner of it is why: a colt that looks beaten at the top of the lane and finds another gear is the kind trainers and buyers remember at the sales ring. Ward, whose barn is a fixture at the Lexington meet, now has a Speightstown colt with a late-running pedigree to point toward bigger company.
