Saffie Joseph Jr. Goes to $140,000 for a Pappacap Colt in Ocala
A son of Pappacap brought the top price on Wednesday, the closing session of the October yearling sale at Ocala Breeders' Sales. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. went to $140,000 for the colt, cataloged as hip 339, and no yearling sold that day made more. That is the number at the top of the closing page: one trainer, one colt, one sire. In a Florida sale it marks the yearling who drew the strongest bid of the session, with the final lots already through the ring. For anyone following the sales calendar, the results to note are the hip number, the sire line and the trainer's name. On the sale's last day, the Pappacap colt was the one Joseph wanted most.
