Rivian R2's Trail-Ready Tires Turn Out to Be the Better Choice on Pavement
Rivian's R2 can be fitted with tires meant for dirt and rock, and Car and Driver has found that the knobbier set pays off where most owners will actually spend their miles, on the road. The magazine's testing showed the off-road rubber holding a bend harder and bringing the electric SUV to a stop in less distance than expected from a tire built for trails. That is the reverse of the usual trade-off, in which buyers accept a softer on-road feel in exchange for capability off it. For the Colorado and Aspen owner who wants one set of tires for both the canyon road and the Forest Service track, it is a welcome result, though the numbers belong to Car and Driver's test and not to any drive of ours.
