A 454-Foot Lürssen Fit at Charleston's Megadock, and the Fuel Lines Kept Up

· 1 min read

Charleston has now hosted a Lürssen measuring 454 feet overall at its Megadock, the kind of berth that most Southeastern ports simply cannot offer. For an owner, the length is the whole story: a yacht of that size needs more than open water, it needs a pier built to take the weight and the beam without compromise. Charleston has one. The dock is served by fifteen fueling points engineered for fast throughput, which matters when a vessel of that scale is taking on fuel between legs and the crew would rather spend the afternoon on the dock than at the pump. What sets the South Carolina port apart from a purely industrial fuel stop is what lies beyond the gangway. The city's historic district begins almost as soon as a guest steps ashore, so the walk from the pier to a good lunch under old live oaks takes minutes rather than a car ride. For owners working the Atlantic coast between Florida and the Northeast, that pairing of serious infrastructure and a civilized town is rare enough to plan a route around.
