The American SetScorsese Gives New York an Autumn Evening With *Gone to Earth
The New York Film Festival brought Martin Scorsese to the screen this fall with *Gone to Earth*, a British picture that came close to vanishing. It was shown in a fresh restoration, and its Technicolor once again had a full house to play to. A watch house partnered with him on the evening. A film nearly lost is now one an audience can sit down to again, and the people who made that happen deserve the credit. For anyone still in Manhattan before heading south for the season, it was the kind of night that makes a festival worth going to.
