Manhattan Has a New Girl, and She Takes Her Martini Dirty
For anyone who keeps an apartment in the city between seasons, Vanity Fair has filed the latest word on which downtown type currently holds the room. The archetype has turned over again: after the Dimes Square moment and then the West Village moment, the magazine says Manhattan now belongs to a persona known as Ellie for the Girls. Its guide to the city is organized around her particulars, chief among them a standing end-of-week recap on Sundays and a martini ordered brined rather than dry. The magazine describes her following as having reached the devoted, insider proportions that make a name travel on its own. Consider it the reading to finish before the first flight north.
