A New Country Joins the Oscar Field: Rwanda Sends Its First Film to the Academy
Rwanda has put forward a film for the Academy Awards for the first time in its history. The country's choice is "Ben'Imana," directed by Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo. It will compete for a place in the international feature category at the 99th Academy Awards. The submission makes Rwanda a newcomer among the nations that send one film a year to the Academy in that category. Dusabejambo's film now carries her country's name into a contest that ends on a stage in Los Angeles.
