Bowie Portrait Bearing the Artist's Own Hands Heads to Sotheby's
A likeness that David Bowie painted of himself in 1996 is being offered for sale through Sotheby's. The musician pressed his palms into the work, so the canvas carries his prints alongside the painted image. It belongs to a group of eight such portraits Bowie made of himself during that period. Collectors in Beverly Hills following the sale will find an object that records the artist's hand in the most literal sense.
